Local Government and Governance Structure
The Northern Village of Air Ronge municipal government is the local authority closest to the public. Governed by Saskatchewan’s The Northern Municipalities Act, 2010, our local structure ensures that community voices guide the growth, essential infrastructure, and public services of Air Ronge.
The Village Council
Our Village Council is the elected governing body responsible for setting policies, approving bylaws, and mapping the strategic direction of the community. The council consists of:
- The Mayor: Serves as the chief elected official, chairperson for council meetings, and official representative of the Village.
- Four Councillors: Elected at-large by the public to represent the community as a whole, advocate for local issues, and vote on municipal legislation.
- Elder Advisor: Council includes an appointed Elder to provide invaluable cultural wisdom, historical context, and guidance on community matters.
Shared Services & Tri-Community Partnerships
Air Ronge maintains its distinct independent identity while working collaboratively within our region. We belong to a tri-community partnership with the Town of La Ronge and the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, collectively managing several regional entities to efficiently deliver critical shared services, including:
- Regional water infrastructure
- Waste management and landfill utilities
- Regional fire and emergency response services
Council Meetings
Regular council meetings are open to the public for viewing and take place at 7:00 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month. Meetings are hosted in the Council Chambers at the Air Ronge Village Office (123 Cessna Street West).
Administration & Operations
To ensure effective operation, a clear boundary separates the policy-making role of the Council from daily operations handled by our professional administrative team.
- Chief Administrative Officer (CAO): Appointed by Council, the CAO serves as the principal link between administrative staff and elected officials, managing daily operations and ensuring council directives are executed.
- Municipal Staff: A dedicated team managing financial planning, local public works, municipal road care, maintenance, and resident utility operations
